La Paella Tapas Wine Bar & Restaurant

Paella is a wonderful Spanish dish usually consisting of seafood or chicken along with sausage, vegetables and flavored rice. Unfortunately it is an item that is hard to find in Southwest Connecticut and even when found, may not be much better than the frozen variety one can find in the local supermarket.
Fortunately there is one place in the area where a variety of superb paellas can be obtained, along with a great variety of tapas (hot and cold), fish and seafood dishes and traditional meat dishes. This is the La Paella Tapas Wine Bar and Restaurant in Norwalk, CT.

Reopened after a renovation to double the size of the restaurant and to add a free standing bar area with tables for those just looking for a drink and tapas, the quality of the paella has not skipped a beat. There are at least 6 different paellas offered each evening, from the classic Valencia to a rabbit paella, all of which are designed for at least 2 and range in the mid to high $20s per person. I highly recommend the squid ink paella. This is a delicious collection of mussels, clams, shrimp, scallops and octopus served over bed of rice infused with a dark squid ink sauce. We usually order for 2 and have some to take home.

It may take a while for Paella to be prepared, so tapas is recommended. There are over 30 hot and cold tappas to choose from as well as salads to enjoy before the arrival of the paella. My favorite is a roasted goat cheese tappas served with sundried tomatoes and garlic toast.

The wine selection features a large number of Spanish and Latin American offerings along with the typical sangrias.

In all, it is very much worth a trip to Wall Street in Norwalk for a pleasant evening of food and drink.

Parking on the street is available at unmetered spots in front or near the restaurant.
